I’ve been studying astrology and Astrocartography since 2020. I know first hand what its like to live on challenging planetary lines – I’m currently living on a 6 line vortex of my Saturn, Pluto, Chiron, Moon, Mercury and Jupiter (and have been for 8+ years), and it has been a initiation to say the least! Through all of the lessons I’ve learned in my own personal Astrocartography, I have found ease, balance, self-trust and acceptance of my inner artist wherever I am in the world. So you’re living somewhere with challenging astrocartography lines….

If you’re anything like me (just read about my Astrocartography vortex above 👆) you might be experiencing the effects of living or travelling somewhere within orb or proximity of a challenging line. Just like we learned in my last post, its not always just the line that is at play, but your relocated natal chart can also add extra intensity, depending on what is going on in that birth chart. For example, you might have a planet in question near an angle - look for the AC/DC/IC/MC on your Astromap. If that planet, let’s say you have a challenging Saturn, is within 0-3 degrees of your rising, you might be feeling that! You might have a greater sense of time delays or it could take extra work to prioritize self-care, rest and what makes us feel most alive because you’re always working non-stop.

Thanks to Astocartography, we can hone in on a gentler energy simply by adjusting our location to take a step back. As someone that lives within 1 degree of their Saturn AC (15 mi), I can attest to the intensity! Even 150 mi away can be very strong, the energy can really be felt up to 100 mi away, but the influence, even if its weak can still be felt up to 600 miles away! 

Maybe you don’t have challenging lines, but you live somewhere where there aren’t many planetary energies  at all. You’ll can verify this with your map if you don’t see any lines for hundreds of miles. You might also be feeling like things unfold more slowly in life, that things go one way or another or there isn’t much happening in that location for you overall.

So what can you do? Not everyone has the privilege (or wants to) pick up and move halfway across the world, so what can you do to develop a more supportive relationship with the place you currently call home.

Introducing planetary crossings, or parans.

Parans are your new bestie when you want to have a different relationship with the places you live or travel. When you want to experience better connection with others, increase abundance and prosperity, friendships, looking for a big change, want to be more creative, have more fun or just have a deeper sense of self – even if you are living on a Mars (or Saturn or Chiron) line.

So what is a paran anyway? It’s where two planetary lines cross to form a point. That point forms a horizontal line at a specific latitude. The effect of living near a paran is based on what the 2 planets are, its basically a blended energy (read until the end for a few of our favorite ones). 

You can literally follow that line all the way across the world and experience a similar energy. Of course this will always depend on what other planetary lines are nearby, so check your map before you book that trip! Parans are truly magical and do double duty.

Parans help us to focus in on a certain location

Unlike planetary lines whose orb of influence extends up to 600 miles away, parans are let us zoom into precisely where, within a region is best. This is how I can tell all of my clients, with accuracy exactly where they should be down to the name of the exact town, city or village they should be in. The reason for this is these horizontal lines can be felt only within 70 miles of the line. 0-15 is on the strong side, 35mi is about half strength etc.

Parans can balance out a particularly challenged line

If you are near a challenging line – lets say you have an opposition to your Mars in Cancer, that doesn’t have to be the only energy you experience and it could mean you might not need to move either. How does this work? The closer you are to parans, the less you can feel the effects of a challenging line – you really have the ability to tweak the experience you want to have by making micro-shifts in a location you live or will be visiting.

What if I don’t have any planetary lines?

This is another great side effect of parans – like we mentioned at the beginning of this post, if the you’re looking to increase the intensity of a location that has neutral energy, with the right parans nearby that will become the main energy you feel in that location – as long as you are in orb of that paran’s influence.

Are all parans supportive?

Even though each paran combination has a general effect, your proximity to the paran should always consider how those planets show up in your natal or relocated birth charts for the location in question. Look for any sextiles or trines (supportive) and squares or oppositions (more of a challenge) to the paran planets. Once you have found the most supportive parans for you, you can start to with experiment with the energy in your location or on your next trip – let us know how it goes we’d love to hear about your experience.

If you find yourself in a location with unsupportive parans and a challenging line, its best to move on. In fact – if you also have a challenging planetary line, its best to fine-tune your location to an area with no parans or those with more of a neutral effect.

A few of our favorite planetary line crossings

• Pluto x Jupiter: this is a prosperity line. Whatever Jupiter touches it expands and ca bring luck and opportunities to. Paired with Pluto this can bring extra support with finances, leadership and immense success in the career.

• Uranus x Venus: Uranus brings the unconventional, breakthroughs and meeting interesting people and having experiences you can’t have anywhere else. It won’t be forever, but you can guarantee you’ll be changed by the experience.

• Venus x Neptune: Dreaminess everywhere, creativity and artistic talents can be further developed here. 
  

How can I find my own parans?

While there are some free Astrology websites out there like Astro Click Travel or Astro-seek that include paran crossings, we recommend using professional Astrocartography software that can show you all your paran lines like you see here, without needing to click around the map too much. Whatever you use, there is usually an option that will show you how far the crossings are from you (we’re looking for up to 70 mi) as well as the meanings of the paran which is a blended energy based on the two planets. You can tell by seeing the two planetary glyphs that are next to one another.
